Welcome to the Department of Civil Engineering at St. Thomas Institute for Science & Technology, Mar Chrysostam Nagar, Kazhakoottam, Trivandrum. The department is working to be a prominent department that produces civil engineering graduates that have moral character and technical proficiency. For that we provide the finest learning environment possible by combining practice and theory. Through our under graduate and post graduate programs we offer students the chance to do research to address the problems in civil engineering. In the ever changing world of opportunities we work with industry to address the challenges with respect to infrastructure, quality control, and environmental protection.

Our department has eight well qualified teaching faculty members and total intake strength of the UG program (B.Tech in Civil Engineering) is 60nos and PG program (M.Tech in Geotechnical Engineering) is 24nos. The department was established in the year 2010. In the year 2014, the department was able to start PG course in Geotechnical Engineering. All the graduated students from our department are well placed in reputed companies and also some of them are pursuing higher studies in prestigious institutions in India and abroad. Recently the department successfully completed an online International Conference on Construction Materials (ICCMS 2021) in which around 270 papers were presented. The students and staff were also involved in various projects apart from their academic activities. Through the Industry Attachment Cell (IAC) attached to APJ Abdul Kalam University we successfully completed a project of KSITM. The student projects were published in journals and recently one the project was selected for Unnat Bharat Abyan (UBA) sponsored program funded by IIT Delhi. The students and staff organize various technical and non technical events in the department through STIST student chapter of Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS) and student association & TAEZIZ. We are also having well equipped labs which are instrumental in having our Centre of Excellence for Building Materials Testing.

Civil Engineering is the oldest engineering stream and it is also known as the mother of all engineering streams. Even though it is an old engineering stream, we use cutting edge technologies like 3D printer and soft wares like AUTOCAD, STAAD Pro., ETABS, 3D Studio Max, PRIMAVERA etc in the construction industry. Civil Engineering is the backbone of any country's development. It deals with construction of infrastructure, dams, irrigation canals, water supply system, sewage system, transportation networks, environmental engineering etc. It is well sort after engineering stream for those who aspire to get state and central government jobs. It also helps you to become an entrepreneur and give job to others. There is lot of private companies exclusively for Civil Engineering graduates. All other engineering streams are connected to Civil Engineering in one way or the other.
